Reasons to Keep Reading in 2025

Hoping your year is starting terrific. This week we had our biggest snowfall in years, 8 to 14 inches were recorded in the center of Indiana from Terre Haute to New Castle. Staying inside and watching the beauty of winter through a window, provided time to complete the blog’s editorial calendar.

The “Life After Work” series focused on the ways people are filling their time is continuing. I am also planning posts about those who choose to continue working in their 70s and 80s. I was at a luncheon in December and was introduced, “This is Brenda, she retired last year." Before my introduction was complete, a woman at the table happily piped up, “I am 70 and I’m never retiring!” In this era of remote work and labor shortages, these are easier choices to make.

On a technical note, I am attempting to advocate with Substack, the platform hosting Older, Bolder & Better! to provide a way for you to listen to the weekly blog. There is an option to click “text to audio” and have this content read to you. You can conveniently listen in the car or at home. It has not been activated on my site yet. Substack support explained the text-to-audio button is activated randomly. I’ll be that squeaky wheel trying to make it happen here sooner vs. later.

Health topics are in development including the impact of brain health as we age, and knee replacements—three friends had them in 2024, and one friend had hers replaced this week. I have a cousin in Illinois and a friend in Indy scheduling for 2025. Knees, glutes, hamstrings—it is all related.

There’s a lot more than health topics, we are also going to talk about dating, companionship, and finding love when you least expect it for the 50+ crowd. The biggest question I get from readers accessing the blog from LinkedIn, is when should I begin preparing for retirement? I’d like to say the day you start your first job! We will explore the question more thoughtfully with input from readers like you. If you’re sentimental like me, you’ll also benefit from the advice of an organizing expert on decluttering your space.

I saved the BIGGEST news for last. This year we are going to get together via ZOOM! This Fall we are going to have an Older, Bolder & Better! 90-minute virtual meet and greet. This will be an opportunity to hear from some of the experts I rely on when creating these posts allowing you to ask questions directly. I am excited about bringing our community together.
