You’re absolutely right Brenda, it’s about fear and urgency. A friend’s elderly father-in-law received such a call where the person on the other end just said “Grandpa? Are you there?” And F-I-L responded “Timmy?” and it spiraled from there. Fortunately my friend was able to stop it before a bank account number was given to prevent “Timmy” from being sent to jail. Thanks for keeping this in the forefront!

Wow! It is really difficult to shut down the phone scams originating outside the U.S. I learned many of the ‘loved one’ scams are from overseas.

Very timely and of course well written. I know someone who lost $40k from scammers. It's very sad and that was all she had.

I'm sorry to hear your acquaintance lost her life savings to scammers. I plan to revisit this topic to discuss other scams and frauds. I like to keep the posts no more than 3 minutes to read so people look forward to receiving them.

I met my guy online 2 years ago, but there were plenty of stolen profile photos being used by scammers!
